Steve Dettelbach Issues Statement on Results in Ohio Attorney General Race
CLEVELAND — In response to the reported results of the Ohio Attorney General race, Steve Dettelbach released the following statement:
“I want to thank the millions of Ohioans who have thrown their support behind this campaign. I’ll never be able to express my gratitude for the ways people across Ohio stepped up to support the idea that the law should work for all of us. I also want to congratulate Dave Yost on becoming our next Attorney General. We should all support him and all of our elected leaders in order to protect the rights and futures of all Ohioans.
“In my many years as a prosecutor and lawyer, I’ve learned that it is always a struggle to make things better. It is always a struggle to make change. Change doesn’t always happen in our time but it always happens in time.
“Although things didn’t pan out the way many of us would have hoped tonight, I want to note that there is no ‘us versus them’ in this outcome. There is only us. And it is up to all of us to continue to fight for the causes that propelled our campaign, particularly in making sure the law is used as a force to improve people’s lives. That means we need to reach across party lines to do what’s right. It means hearing each other out. And above all else, it means having each other’s backs. Thank you for having mine over the course of this campaign.”
